京杭大运河的北起点。通州因运河得名、因运河而兴，世界上最长的人工运河京杭大运河北起通州，穿城而过。在漕运时期，是盛极一时的皇家码头，驰名中外的水陆都会。从南方全国各地运来的物资都会汇集通州，在通州大运河上呈现万舟骈集、舳舻千里的盛景。近年来，通州区统筹谋划水生态环境提升工作,水生态健康状况不断提升，健康综合指数升级为健康等级；生物多样性不断丰富，包括“鸟中大熊猫”中华秋沙鸭等上百种生物在北运河出现。现在，运河两岸游人如织，成为市民钓鱼、休闲散步的网红点位。近期，北京城市副中心运河赛艇大师赛在京杭大运河北运河起点燃情开赛，各项亲水、滨水赛事活动持续激发城市副中心的城市活力。

The north end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.TheCanal is critical to Tongzhou's growth and development.Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal,the longest artificial canal in the world,starts from Tongzhou in the north and goes through the city.During the ancient times when grains were transported to the capital by boat,it was a royal wharf in its heyday and a famous land-and-watertownat home and abroad.Supplies transported from South China and all parts of the country gathered in Tongzhou,presenting a grand scene ofthe Grand Canalpacked with boats.In recent years,Tongzhou District hasimplementedplansto improve the water ecological environment as a whole.The water ecological status has been continuously improved,and the comprehensive health index has been upgraded to a sound level.Biodiversityhasbeen increased.Hundreds of species of creatures such as Chinese merganser,a kind of bird as precious as giant panda,show up in the North Canal.Now,the banks are crowded with visitors for fishing and stroll,known as a popular site on social media.Recently,the Grand Canal Regatta of BMCkicked off at the starting point of the north section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.Various waterfront events continue toinjectvitalitytothe BMC.

京杭大运河岸边万亩森林公园。沿运河而建的大运河森林公园，占地面积10700亩，是北京市首个获得批复并开工建设以及最先对游人免费开放的万亩公园。园内步道全长约9公里，设置了亲水骑行线路十余条，2010年开园至今接待游客2700余万人次。

A forest park of about10,000mu(666hectares)along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.The Grand Canal Forest Park built along the canal,covering an area of10,700mu,is the first10,000-mu park in Beijing that has been approved and brokenground,and the firstthat isopen to visitors free of charge.The total length of the footpath in the park is about nine kilometers,which issupplemented by a dozen of waterside cycling routes.Since its opening in2010,the park has received more than27million visitors.

正在打造的5A景区大运河文化旅游景区。景区包括大运河森林公园、运河公园、西海子公园葫芦湖景点片区、燃灯塔和周边古建筑群4个区域。工程完成后，景区内将打造1条水上大环线、1条陆上大环线和6条各具特色的景区小游线。景区将采用“游船+步行+电瓶车+自行车”多种交通方式串联起景区的各个景点。作为景区森林生态体验区中的重要组成部分的大运河森林公园为例绿化面积达到8200亩，绿化率达到80%左右，这是通州特有的、北京市唯一的一所运河生态天然大氧吧。

The5A Grand Canal cultural tourism scenic areaisunder construction.The scenic area includes the Grand Canal Forest Park,the Canal Park,the Hulu Lake scenic area of Xihaizi Park,Randeng Tower and the surrounding ancient buildings.When completed,the scenic area will see a major loop route on water andanotherone on land,as well as six minor loop lines with different characteristics.Thesescenic spots will be connected by various means of transportation like cruise,walking,electricbattery vehicle and bicycle.As an important part of the forest ecological experience area,the Grand Canal Forest Park,for example,has a green area of8,200mu,with a greenerycoverageof about80%.It is the onlylarge-scale ecological zone by the Grand Canal inTongzhou and the only one in Beijing.

正在打造北京首个平原地区的森林城市。近年来，副中心坚持大尺度绿化，精心打造大运河森林公园等城市“绿肺”，城市副中心区域内万亩以上郊野公园和森林湿地达到8处，千亩以上森林组团达到32处，国家森林城市创建已经进入名单公示阶段,将打造成为北京平原地区首个“生长在森林里的城市”。

三大建筑：为市民建设高品质文化服务聚集

工业区变身森林绿肺。为了满足市民文化更好的品质需求，通州区建设城市副中心剧院、城市副中心图书馆、大运河博物馆，简称三大建筑。三大建筑位于城市绿心森林公园，公园原身是一个工业区，疏解腾退后在原址上进行改造，建成了集生态修复、市民休闲、文化传承于一体的城市森林公园，总面积约11.2平方公里，约为颐和园的3倍，相当于3个纽约中央公园，拥有万亩景观林和多处自然人文景观。公园为开放式无围墙设计、24小时对外开放，同时6条市政路穿行通过，与周边路网连接，市民可方便抵达。三大建筑建筑面积30万平方米，实现了项目整体低碳、绿色、高比例可再生能源的节能减排目标。据测算，三大建筑投入运营后，相比同类型未采取节能减排措施的公共建筑，每年可减少二氧化碳排放约1万吨。

Turn the industrial zone to a forest“green lung”.To meetcitizens’needs for higherquality cultural facilities,Tongzhou Districtis buildingthree major buildings:the BMCTheatre,the BMCLibrary and the Grand Canal Museum,which are located in the Central Green Forest Park.This site used to bean industrialzone,whichwas rebuilt onitsoriginal site into an urban forest parkwiththe functions ofecologicalrehabilitation,leisure and culturalactivities for residents.It covers about11.2square kilometers,about three timesthe sizeof the Summer Palace and the New York Central Park,with10,000mu of landscape forests and many natural and cultural landscapes.It is an openpark without walls and opens24hours.In terms of transportation,six municipal roadsrun though the park,connecting itwith the surrounding road networkto facilitatecitizens’travel.The three buildings,coveringan area of300,000square meters,areenergy-efficient,greenandlow-carbon,anduse ahigh proportionof renewable energy.It is estimated that after the three major buildings are put into operation,compared with similar public buildings without energy conservation andlow-carbonemission measures,theannualcarbon dioxide emissionswill beabout10,000tonslower.

城市副中心剧院又名“文化粮仓”，创意源于通州古粮仓和运送物资的船舶，包括歌剧院、音乐厅、戏剧院多功能厅和室外剧场，建筑面积12.53万平方米，集演艺演出、艺术创作、艺术教育、现场体验等功能于一体。未来这里将成为集文艺演出、展览展示、艺术普及教育、文化交流体验功能于一体的世界级一流剧院。

TheBMCTheaterisalsocalledthe“cultural granary”,a nameinspired by the ancient granary of Tongzhou and the boats transporting supplies.It includesanopera house,aconcert hall,amulti-function hall andanoutdoor theater,with a building area of125,300square meters.It integratesart shows,artistic creation,artistic education,on-site experience and other functions.In the future,it will become a world-class theater integratingthe functions of performing arts shows,exhibition,art education,and cultural exchange and experience.

城市副中心图书馆又名“森林书苑”，建筑面积约7.5万平方米。这里有2.5万平方米、世界上最大的无隔墙开敞阅读空间，有世界最大的“智慧机械书库”，有世界首例超高玻璃幕墙的生产安装，其中最高的玻璃幕墙高16米、宽2.5米，重达12吨。未来，这里将成为一个集知识传播、城市智库、学习共享等功能于一体的现代大型公共图书馆。

TheBMCLibrary,also known as“forest library”,covers a building area of about75,000square meters.It houses the world’s largest open-floorreading space of25,000square meters—a space not divided by floor-to-ceiling walls,the world’s largest“smart mechanical library”,andtheinstallation of the world’s first ultra-high curtain glass walls,of which the highest one is16meters high,2.5meters wide,and weighs12tons.In the future,it will be a large modern public librarythat serves not only as a library but also as anurban think tank,as well as a place forlearningandsharing.

大运河博物馆又名“运河之舟”，建筑面积约为10万平方米，其整体设计理念来源于船舶、风帆和水浪三个元素，通过建筑设计将千年前忙碌的运河图景永久性定格在了绿心的一片森海之中。未来，这里将成为一座集收藏保管、开放式展陈、科学研究、社会教育、文保修复等功能于一体的智慧型综合博物馆。

The Grand Canal Museum,also known as“boat on the canal”,covers a building area of about100,000square meters.In terms of design,it was inspired by ships,sailsand waves.Through architectural design,the bustling scene thousands of years ago along the Grand Canal is permanently framedin the form of a museum inthe forest of the Central Green Forest Park.In the future,it will be an intelligentand multi-functionalmuseum,which will be a place not just for thecollection and preservationof artifacts,but also for holdingopen exhibitions,scientific research,social educationactivities,and the renovation of cultural artifacts.

据了解，三大建筑预计于2022年底实现基本完工，预计于2023年底前实现三大建筑及共享配套设施项目全面完工并正式面向公众开放。届时，这里将成为城市副中心率先建成的地标性公共文化建筑群，成为市民共享的“文化粮仓”“森林书苑”“运河之舟”，市民可在万亩景观林与亭台楼阁之中感受自然环境与人文休闲的有机融合。

Theconstruction ofthree major buildingsis expected tobe completed by the end of2022as scheduled,andthe construction of supportingfacilitieswill be completed in the following year.Together,theywill be open to the public by the end of2023.At that time,theywill becomethe firstlandmark cultural building cluster built in theBMC.At the“cultural granary”,“forest library”and“boat on the canal”,citizenswill be able toenjoy cultural activities in beautiful and unique buildings surrounded by the green expanse of the forests.
