Cantonese Opera fans were enchanted as Zeng Xiaomin performed her award winning ‘Madam White Snake ・ The Affection’ in Guangdong Cantonese Opera Art Center on Sept. 27.
The opera ‘Madam White Snake C The Affection’ is produced by Guangdong Cantonese Opera Institute. It brings the Cantonese Opera to modern performance stages, with dazzling lights and beautiful animations on LED screens.
Zeng Xiaomin, the Party Secretary, Vice President and diva of the institute, is the heroine in this opera. Her performance in this opera won her a trophy in Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award, China’s top award for drama.

On Sept 28, a seminar on Zeng Xiaomin’s Cantonese Opera performing art was held in Guangzhou. About 20 experts and scholars from China had exchanges and discussions about Zeng’s achievement in her inheritance and innovation of traditional opera at the seminar.
The seminar was co-hosted by Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture, Guangdong Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Guangdong Theatre Association.
“It is important to hold these seminars for promoting outstanding talents in culture sector, and producing more excellent art pieces,” said Shen Haixiong, a member of the standing committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Head of Guangdong Provincial Publicity Department.
Shen encouraged Zeng to continue her efforts for the innovation and development of Cantonese Opera as well as Guangdong’s literature and art.

Shen added that more artists and cultural creations are needed for realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Shen encouraged the artists to focus on the real life during their cultural creation work. He also called on the society to make good circumstances for the cultural creation.
More About Zeng Xiaomin
Zeng Xiaomin was an apprentice to a famous Cantonese Opera performing artist Ding Fan. Zeng is deeply engrossed in Cantonese Opera performing and is dedicated to perform different kinds of Dan roles, leading female roles in Chinese opera. She has starred in about 40 operas, including ‘Generals of the Yang Family’, ‘Madame Huarui’, and ‘Madam White Snake ・ The Affection’. In the operas, she is handsome and pretty in appearance, sweet and mellow in voices, exquisite and meticulous in performance.
With great potential and passion in performance, Zeng is very popular with opera fans and widely-admired by experts and her peers. She has made numerous useful attempts on the inheritance and innovation of Cantonese Opera, which serves as a good example for young artists.
